This lesson introduces learners to ethics and corporate social responsibility - this is also covered in theme 4, although with some differences such as the focus on pay and rewards. We start by looking at what is involved in ethics, with real examples of a number of unethical actions, for example the Primark factory in Bangladesh which collapsed and killed many workers, or the suicides that were committed in Foxconn in Shezhen due to the horrid working conditions.
We look at the advantages of being a socially responsible company before looking at some facts into CEOs pay. A case study on CEOs salaries and bonus makes for an interesting discussion where students can prepare arguments for and against the very high bonus’ CEOs receive.
Students can present their findings back in groups, and then answer a 12 mark question on the case study in class or for homework. Structure guidance and a concise model answer provided for students to identify WWW and EBI with their response.A box plenary to finish with.

This lesson introduces learners to the various stakeholders and how they can conflict with shareholders priorities. We start by looking at the different types of stakeholders involved in a business, we then look at their key interests, followed by evaluating the most important interest for each stakeholders. Once students know the interests well, we can start to look at how stakeholders might conflict with each other - a few examples given here.
We read a case study on Unilever, students prepare presentations on whether they should focus on shareholders or stakeholders, this is in the form of a 20 mark question so students could answer it after the presentation, or for homework. Structure guidance and concise points that would be the main focus of the answer is provided.

This lesson introduces learners to corporate influences in business, with a particular focus on short-termism vs long-termism, we start with a recap to ensure students remember CPA, then go on to look at how short term and long term views influence decision making.
We analyse evidence based and subjective decision making before looking at a concise case study on Rolls Royce and understanding what makes them a long termist business, this study can be used as a class reading task or group, with a discussion to follow. The best way to bring this topic to life is to play a hotel game where students are hotel owners and try to make the most profit by changing their prices over a period of months - students can see their live profit after each month.

This lesson is the first part of ‘The market’ and learners are introduces to what a market actually is, market leaders such as Walkers and Nescafe are discussed. We start by looking at market size and growth before reading a concise case study on which market a mobile phone app should be created for.
An activity where students consider the importance of market size over market growth. We then go onto looking at how markets have become dynamic along with online retailing. As it is the first lesson of theme 1, students are gently introduced to the assessment objectives with a basic question requiring all 4 assessment objectives - a model answer is provided to help students understand the AOs. This lesson is the second part of ‘The market’ and learners first consolidate knowledge from last lesson on market size and share through a group activity, students are in pairs representing a businesss within a market and must calculate their own market shares as well as the whole market.
We then go on to looking at mass and niche markets, with real life examples that students are familiar with. Students have the opportunity to apply this knowledge to a case study on a high end luxury manufacturer - an 8 mark question with structure guidance and a concise model answer for students to look at before peer assessing with marking grids. We look at risk vs uncertainty before finishing with a box plenary.

This double lesson introduces learners to price elasticity of demand - a tricky concept at first but this resource breaks everything down step by step with plenty of calculation and essay exam practice. We start by looking at the concept of elasticity with an engaging Eastenders starter, we learn the key formulas needed to tackle any PED questions before looking at examples of some inelastic products.
Students have the opportunity to calculate PED questions with answers on the board to show how answers are reached. This set of resources includes 1x PPT and 2x word files and can be delivered over 3 lessons. Learners are introduced to two main concepts 1) the product life cycle and 2) the boston matrix and how the two concepts are linked together. We start with looking at different stages a product goes through by looking at some real examples, students have the opportunity to become familiar with the cycle by creating their own - and describing what sales and costs are like at each stage too.
We then go on to look at the boston matrix, we look at each quadrant to understand the cash cows and dogs characteristics in depth. A group task to develop a marketing mix for a drink or a chocolate whilst considering the stage in the product life cycle - students can present their ideas back on the A3 sheet to the class. Another group task where students are given a business and they need to allocate the businesses products into the boston matrix, this could also be fed back or presented.
